Cherry Blossom Craft

Spring is well and truly in the air, and as you may have seen, there are some beautiful trees flowering at the moment. One of these is the Cherry blossom tree. In Japan these trees are named Sakura, and this tree is so popular that they even have a celebration and picnic under the Sakura trees when they’re in bloom,  this is called Hanami.  Make your own Cherry blossom tree craft using the simple steps below.

You will need

  • A4 sheet of paper/canvas any colour you like ( I like light blue or white for this)
  • Black or brown paint
  • Paint brush
  • Glue
  • Pink tissue paper
  • Scissors

Step 1

On the paper/canvas paint the cherry tree trunk using a paint brush and black or brown paint.  Leave this in a flat place to dry.

Step 2

While the paint is drying, cut out small squares which are roughly 3cm x 3cm each.  Cut out as many as you like as these will be flowers on the cherry blossom tree.  Once these are cut out, get scrunching!  Try not to scrunch them too tight, but just enough so they are still ‘puffy’.

Step 3

The next step is to put the beautiful flowers on the tree.  Once the paint is dry on the paper, get sticking.  Dab glue dots on the branches of the tree and gently stick on the pink scrunched tissue paper.  Decorate the tree with as many flowers as you like.  Once you have stuck on all the flowers, leave the paper in a flat place to dry.

Step 4

Sit by your cherry blossom tree craft, and celebrate Hanami with a picnic, while admiring the beautiful blossom tree you have created!
